We are in the midst of the usual summer days of rainy afternoons after a build up of heat here in the south. And that made me think about what I enjoy doing when I can’t get outside and enjoy the sunshine.
Reading
Of course, as a writer I love reading (or writing) on rainy days. Sometimes I will re-read one of my favorite books. Mostly, I read books that I have yet to read before.
Sewing
I love to sew. I have been sewing since I was nine. Sewing for my family or even quilting brings me great joy. It is a nice creative outlet on rainy days when I have nothing to do but sit in my sewing room and create.
Naps
When I was growing up, each time a storm would roll in, my mother would put us all in her queen size bed, and we would take a nap. She did this because she was scared of storms. I just came to associate it with nap time. What better way to sleep than to listen to the steady beat of the rain on the roof? No wonder I still enjoy a good nap on a rainy day as an adult.
