An author who has influenced my writing is Stephen King. I know that sounds odd coming from a romance author, but having read his writing, and his book On Writing, I can wholeheartedly state that he has had the biggest influence on my writing.
When it comes to writing, King’s memoir holds some great tips. I have used those to cultivate my own writing craft. It’s true that they say to write a genre, you should read a genre often, but you should also take advantage of the writing tips that most authors give you.
King’s excerpt on writing clarity and conciseness is something that all authors- and even potential authors- can benefit from reading. When I am asked for advice about writing, I generally point them toward King’s memoir, and I tell them that if they do not want to read it, they should at least find one of his interviews where he is asked for writing tips. After all, why reinvent the wheel. He has excellent advice to give, and he is today’s modern day prolific writer churning out multiple books.
